Giro 2013 inspection in Naples with Alex Zanardi and Gianni Bugno. Bike lane complation opening by Luigi De magistris, the mayor.

This morning RCS Gazzetta dello Sport inspected town of Naples and met Mr. Luigi De Magistris, mayor of  the town to define last details of the first stage of Giro 2013. 

The city of Naples will host the Great Start 'Grande Partenza' of the 2013 Giro d’Italia, exactly 50 years after the Corsa Rosa last started in the southern Italian city in 1963. The 96th edition of the race starts on Saturday May 4 and will end on Sunday May 26.

Today Gianni Bugno, Alex Zanardi and the mayor ridden by bicycle the pedestrian seafront of the town. In this occasion the mayor announced to the press the completion of the biggest bike lane of south of Italy built  in the town of Naples from the central railway station to the Bagnoli district area. 

Alex Zanardi (gold at paralympics 2012) explain in video content in this post that the new pedestrian seafront of the town of Naples can be a good destination for tourists with special needs.

From Sasso Marconi will start our cycling excursion along the SP 65 road to climb the Passo della Futa and after will continue to Florence via Barberino di Mugello.

In Florence we will ride to the historical center where finished the 2013 Giro stage. During the day is included tasting activity of local food. 

At the end of the day is available transfer service to your accommodation in Venice or Bologna regions.

DAY 1 : WELCOME TO ADRIATIC COAST

DAY 2 : PESCARA FINISH LINE

Daily guided escursion to Pescara and surrounding area of Abruzzo region where we will ride the same oute of the Giro 2013 to the finish line of the 7th Giro stage. During the excursion will enjoy exclusive tasting of local wine and food. Team car support on the road. At the end of the day we will be transferred by van to the 3 or 4 stars hotel in Martinsicuro where will have dinner.

DAY 3 : SALTARA FINISH LINE

Transfer to Ancona in Le Marche region where we will start guided cycling excursion to Saltara (and surrounding area) where will ride the Giro route to the finish line of 8th Giro stage. During the excursion will enjoy exclusive tasting of local wine and food. Team car support on the road. At the end of the day we will be transferred by van to the accommodation where will have dinner. 

Last accommodation can change under flight necessities. Few examples : Martinsicuro or Pescara 3 or 4 stars hotel in case of flight departure from Pescara or Rome airport or Pesaro 3 or 4 stars hotel in case of flight departure from Florence or Venice.

Piscina Mirabilis, the largest Roman cistern of drinking water ever. An archaeological site in Miseno, NW of the Goulf of Naples.

This is Piscina Mirabilis. 

Was built in the Augustan period at Miseno, on the north-west of the Gulf of Naples.  Is the largest cistern of drinking water ever built by Roman Empire. Entirely excavated in the tuff has the capacity of 12,000 cubic meters of water, is 15 meters high, 72 long and 25 wide and is covered with a barrel vault supported by 48 massive piers, arranged in four rows to form five long aisles .

The reservoir was built to supply water to the men of the largest fleet of the Roman Empire. 

The visits of this side and tasting activities at close farmhouse are included in our daily excursions of Phlegrean bay.
