What teaches a bicycle trip?

What teaches a bicycle trip? The balance, determination, contentment, humility, simple living, healthy and full of air, the value of slowness, discovery and self-respect and attention to others. Conviviality, solidarity, human warmth and generosity, much more frequent in those who have nothing in who has everything...To overcome both cultural and geographical latitudes that its inner borders. In constant disequilibrium, by bicycle, you find the right speed to let them grow within. The bike allows children to grow up and become adults, adults to dream and be a little 'children ...

Vesuvius Volcano cycling paths and climbing

Vesuvius is a characteristic example of a volcano in a volcano made by an outer broken cone, Mt. Somma, which has an almost completely destroyed crater belt. In it there is a smaller cone, the Vesuvius, divided from the former by a depression called Valle del Gigante, a part of the ancient caldera where subsequently, probably during the 79 AD eruption, the Gran Cono or Vesuvius arose.
Valle del Gigante is divided into two parts: Atrio del Cavallo in the west, and Valle dell'Inferno in the east. The northern part of Somma's ancient crater is well preserved, since it has been protected from the volcano's devastating violence by the height of the internal wall which prevented the lava from moving downslope. The slopes are furrowed by deep radial gorges produced by the erosion of the meteoric waters. The whole section is then characterized by dark volcanic rock spikes. The old crater edge is formed by a series of summits called "cognoli".
While the height of mount Somma and its profile have remained unchanged for centuries, the height and the profile of the Vesuvius have suffered considerable variations caused by the following eruptions, with raisings and lowerings.
The Vesuvius is a characteristic polygenic and mixed volcano: this means that it consists of lava of different chemical composition (for example trachytes, tephrites, leucitites) and formed both by lava flows and by pyroclastic deposits. All the areas lying on the mountain slopes are formed by soils transported by mudflows moving downslope in the rainy seasons through deep and narrow gorges called beds or more commonly "lagni". The high embankments are formed by piles of lavic scoriae, which precipitated in incandescent state and spread towards the lower slopes, being precious for the vegetation thanks to their fertile material, rich in silicium and potassium.

Carnival season in Venice - Mardi Gras - High water phenomenon - Venice's Acqua Alta pathways

Acqua Alta "Acqua alta" (high water) is a phenomenon which generally takes place in Venice in winter time, when a combination of astronomical tide, strong south wind (scirocco) and seiche (see glossary below) can cause a larger inflow of water into the Venetian Lagoon.

How long does an aqua alta last? High water depends on the tide cycle (the alternation of high and low tides happens every 6 hours): when there is "acqua alta" on the streets this lasts only a few hours during the peak of the high tide (usually 3 to 4 hours). Once water goes down again, things go back to normality.

Does Venice completely go under water when "acqua alta" occurs? No, only exceptional high waters affect the whole town and even on those occasions the water-line is really remarkable only in the lowest areas. These are the flooding rates of the town in relation to high water levels (measured on the mareographic zero): +100 cm: 3,56%; +110 cm: 11,74%; +120 cm: 35,18%; +130 cm: 68,75%; over +140 cm 90% of the town is covered by water.

"Acqua alta" is not a dangerous phenomenon: it is important to understand that most of the time high tides cause very limited inconvenience to Venetians and tourists. In these cases, the only thing to do is to be patient and wait a few hours for the following ebb. Otherwise, a suggestion for the most curious people is to buy a pair of boots and visit the town in a quite unusual way.
